The Department of Petroleum Engineering was established at the beginning of the 1980/1981 academic year together with the Department of Geological Engineering. The two Departments were established based on need in an effort to accelerate the Indonesianization process in the petroleum industry. Therefore, since their establishment, the two programs have received assistance from Pertamina, the Production Sharing Contractor Company and PPTMGB “Lemigas”. The assistance received is in the form of lecture buildings, laboratories and equipment, teaching staff and facilities in connection with practical work and final assignments.
